Chelsea could cut their losses and sell Fernando Torres cheap
The non-striking striker who cost Abramovich £50m could go to Malaga for £30m
IS THE goal-shy Spaniard Fernando Torres going to finally put an end to his Stamford Bridge nightmare? Yes, according to the Metro, who report that the shirking striker is being "targeted by Malaga". The Spanish club was recently bought by a consortium of Qatari businessmen and apparently they're in the process of putting together a £30m offer for the Torres.
Since arriving at the Bridge in January this year in a £50m deal from Liverpool, Fernando The Flop has netted just five times and in recent weeks he's been relegated to bench-warmer by Blues coach Andre Villas-Boas. But that could soon all end after Malaga expressed an interest in resurrecting Torres's career as they look to qualify for next season's Champions League.
The Metro says that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will "cut his losses" and offload Torres for £20m less than he paid for him just a year ago.
Still with Chelsea and shotstopper Petr Cech has parried away rumours that he might be heading for pastures new in January. The 29-year-old keeper joined Chelsea in 2003 but a number of less-than-brilliant performances this season has led to gossip suggesting the Czech might not be content with life at the Bridge. Not so, says the player, who told Czech website isport.blesk.cz: "I have been here for eight years and I have been more or less a regular starter, so I'm more than happy."
It's believed Villas-Boas is keen for Cech to remain in west London and that appears to fit in with his own plans. "Chelsea are in the world's top competition, so I have no reason to leave. I would like to see myself staying," said Cech.
Christmas has come early for Arsenal fans, and we're not talking about their late win at Aston Villa on Wednesday night. Rather it's the news that Andrey Arshavin might soon be a thing of the past. The Russian rambler has been underperforming at the Emirates for the best part of two seasons but now it seems he is off to Zenit St Petersburg next month.
In an interview with Russian rag Sovietsky Sport, Zenit director Igor Korneyev confirmed the club "are always interested in Arshavin". Asked if they had been in contact with Arsenal to discuss a deal for the 30-year-old, Korneyev came over all coy, saying: "I can neither confirm nor deny whether we have made an offer."
Finally the saga of Goldenballs rolls on and on with David Beckham's representatives insisting the former England midfielder has agreed no deal to join Paris Saint Germain.
It had been intimated in the more excitable French papers on Wednesday morning that Beckham had put pen to paper with PSG, but those rumours drew a sharp response from Brand Beckham. "No agreement has been reached with any club yet, talk of a deal is premature," one of his spokesmen was quoted as telling Talksport.
The 36-year-old midfielder is out of contract with LA Galaxy but it seems he's yet to decide where he'll be playing in 2012. "He is still in discussion with a number of clubs, including LA Galaxy," added the spokesman. ·
