Liverpool could spoil Gunners' plan to lure Salomon Kalou
Liverpool expected to make a move for striker Wenger had hoped would replace Thierry Henry
AS ARSENE WENGER continues to polish Thierry Henry's statue outside the Emirates, there comes news that may take the shine out of the Arsenal manager's mood. According to Talksport, Liverpool are lining up an audacious swoop for Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou.
It had seemed that the Gunners were in a one-horse race for the 26-year-old Ivory Coast hitman. But Talksport claims Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has turned his attention to Kalou after concluding that Aston Villa frontman Darren Bent is not worth the £25m that the Midlands club allegedly want for him.
Wenger has been eyeing up Kalou as a replacement for Henry when the goal-scoring legend returns to the MLS at the end of next month, but Talksport predicts Liverpool will make a "shock move" for Kalou in the next few days.
Sky Sports reports that Carlos Tevez would prefer a move to AC Milan over one to rivals Inter. The Argentine striker hasn't kicked a ball in anger since September following his fallout with Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini but an end to the drawn-out saga doesn't appear to be imminent.
According to Sky, negotiations between the Sky Blues and the two Milan clubs "have reached a stalemate" with the Premier League leaders determined to secure a permanent move for Tevez.
According to Kia Joorabchian, the agent of the attitudinal Argentine, "Carlos told me that he wants to play with [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic at AC Milan". Apparently Tevez believes he and Ibrahimovic could form a deadly strike force - though didn't Tevez say similar about Wayne Rooney when he joined Manchester United in 2007?
Still with Argentine hotshots and Spanish rag Marca reckons that Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria is being tracked by Chelsea. The 23-year-old South American joined the Spanish giants in 2010 from Benfica but apparently the Blues are looking to pay Real £35m for his services. It's believed that Chelsea representatives have met with di Maria's people to discuss personal terms and, if deemed acceptable, an official approach will be made to Real.
In other news, Benjamin Corgnet has moved to dampen speculation that he could be on the brink of a move to Newcastle United. The 24-year-old Dijon midfielder has been on the Magpies' radar for weeks, with rumours suggesting that the club had one offer rejected by the French outfit last week.
Now, according to goal.com, Corgnet has said he's happy to remain with Dijon for the time being. "I have read and heard that several English clubs, including Newcastle, are interested in me, but all these rumours do not really disturb me... I think it would be the best for me to end the season with Dijon."
Finally, as Chinese takeaways go, it's not a bad one - £300,000-a-week. That's the figure the Mirror claims Didier Drogba has been offered by Shanghai Shenhua to follow former Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka to the Far East. Apparently the Chinese club have offered the 33-year-old Drogba an "incredible" two-and-a-half-year deal that would make the striker one of the highest earners in the game.
The Mirror says that Drogba – currently playing for Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations – is coming under pressure from Shanghai to sign a deal so his capture can be announced to the world. ·
