David Beckham signs on for two more years with LA Galaxy
Goldenballs will definitely not be joining Spurs or PSG – but he does hope to play in the Olympics
David Beckham has finally put an end to speculation about his future by signing on for another spell with LA Galaxy. The Sun says that Goldenballs has agreed a new two-year deal with the MLS outfit, deciding to see out his career Stateside rather than with one of the number of top European clubs, Spurs and Paris Saint Germain included, rumoured to have been chasing the 36-year-old.
"I had many offers from clubs from around the world," Becks told the paper. "However, I'm still passionate about playing in America and winning trophies with the Galaxy. My family and I are incredibly happy and settled in America and we look forward to spending many more years here."
Nonetheless the Sun goes on to claim that the metrosexual midfielder has insisted on a clause in his new contract allowing him time off to play for Team GB in the Olympics if required.
Sao Paulo star Lucas looks likely to give the cold shoulder to Manchester United and Liverpool as he instead pledges his loyalty to Inter Milan. According to Talksport, the 19-year-old Brazilian striker is in talks with the Italian club and a deal looks likely, particularly now that Inter sporting director Marco Branca is in Brazil to finalise the deal. That will come as a blow to the Premier League pair, both of whom had been tracking the teenager for months.
And there's more misery for Manchester United with the disclosure that Jordi Alba is staying put at Valencia. Alba has been instrumental this season in lifting his club to third in the Spanish league, attracting the attention not only of United but also of Barcelona.
But in an interview with Radio Valencia, the 22-year-old left-back declared: "I've always said I'm very comfortable here, my intention is to continue for many years and I have never said anything different." Pressed on whether the interest of two of Europe's biggest clubs might not turn his head, Alba replied: "It is irrelevant... I want to renew my contract and that says it all."
Spurs defender Vedran Corluka has rebuffed suggestions that he might be about to leave London. The 25-year-old Croatian international has been linked with a move to Juventus in recent weeks but agent Nikky-Arthur Vuksanha told Italian website calciomercato.com his client was enjoying life with the high-flying Lilywhites: "I am aware of the news about Corluka's possible move to Juventus, but they are just rumours."
However, Vuksanha didn't appear that steadfast in proclaiming Corluka's allegiance to Tottenham, adding: "For the moment at least, he will not be going to Juve."
One transfer that is almost signed, sealed and delivered is that of Leeds United captain Jonathan Howson to Norwich City. Sky Sports reports that the Yorkshire club have "reluctantly" accepted the Canaries' bid for the 23-year-old central midfielder.
With Howson's existing contract with Leeds set to expire in June the club decided to cash in on him now, explaining: "The club has been in discussions with the player about a new contract at Elland Road for more than 12 months, but he has been steadfast in his position that he would like the opportunity to play Premier League football." ·
