PSG to offer Frank Lampard a fresh start across the Channel

After warming the bench at Chelsea, Lampard could rejoin his old boss Carlo Ancelotti in France

UNABLE to convince David Beckham to join them, Paris Saint Germain have made a play for another ageing England midfielder – 33-year-old Chelsea stalwart Frank Lampard.

In recent weeks Lampard has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Manchester United and LA Galaxy both mooted as possible destinations. But according to Talksport, new PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti "has made contact with Chelsea" about signing the once nimble-footed playmaker.

Lampard has spent much of the season warming the bench at Chelsea and it’s believed he’d jump at the chance to follow former team-mate Joe Cole across the Channel for a fresh start in France under his boss Ancelotti.

Still with Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk have told the London club that they need to put more cash on the table if they want to land the Brazilian star Willian. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is wanted by Andre Villas-Boas but his initial offer of £16m has been rejected by the Ukraine outfit. Talksport claims that Shakhtar want at least £20m for Willian, who joined them from Corinthians four years ago on a £12m.

Dutchman Wesley Sneijder looks set to stay in Italy after the Inter Milan midfielder said he has no intention of leaving the club this month. The 27-year-old has been linked with the two Manchester clubs of late but that’s of no interest to Sneijder. "'I am in good shape and I feel well," he said after helping Inter defeat Lazio 2-1. "I stay at Inter, I feel good here."

Meanwhile another target for Manchester City doesn’t seem that bothered by their interest either. Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Mateo Kovacic is being chased by both the Sky Blues and Tottenham but the 17-year-old is content to bide his time in his native Croatia. Speaking to local rag 24sata, the teenage sensation said: "I believe that it would be good for me if I would stay at Dinamo for one more year and then leave."

That will come as bad news for the two Premier League clubs, although there was a glimmer of hope from Dinamo director of sport Zoran Mamic: "Manchester City and Tottenham are interested in Mateo Kovacic and they want to buy him right now," he said. "The transfer window is quiet at our club at the moment... but nobody knows what the next few days will bring to us."

In a sign of the times, AC Milan defender Taye Taiwo has opted to sign for Queens Park Rangers ahead of Arsenal. There was a time when the 26-year-old Nigerian left-back would have been flattered by the interest of Arsenal but instead Taiwo has agreed to a loan deal with Rangers. Sky Sports says Taiwo, who signed for Milan from Marseille only last year, has the option of making his loan permanent in the summer if things go well at Loftus Road. ·
