Carlos Tevez starts to fear for his (footballing) life
As £25m proves too much for Inter and PSG, will the stroppy striker ever escape Man City?
IT'S NOT ONLY Kim Dotcom who appears to be going nowhere in the near future. Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez also seems to be staying put after Inter Milan followed Paris Saint Germain and declared themselves uninterested in giving the awkward Argentine a fresh start.
On a message posted on the club's official website, Inter director Marco Tronchetti Provera said: "Does Tevez still interest us? He no longer does as he is looking to take a different path. Inter have rediscovered their champions and we don't need to have him or anybody else."
The news comes just a week after Inter were reported to have made City an unsuccessful offer of £20.7m for the striker. The Sky Blues are said to want £25m for the stroppy South American who last laced his boots in anger back in September. That figure is too much for Inter and PSG, and it remains to be seen if AC Milan are prepared to take a punt on such a prima donna.
As for Tevez, The Sun says that the 27-year-old fears for his future as City take their revenge for his refusing to warm up during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich. A close friend of the Argentine, Carlos Jimenez, told the paper: "Carlitos and I had dinner a few days ago. I could see he was worried. He says City want to stop him playing for two years as a punishment. He knows he must get out of Manchester by January 31."
City meanwhile are said to have made an offer for 20-year-old midfielder Nir Biton, currently plying his trade for MS Ashdod in the Israeli Premier League. The Jewish Chronicle says that Biton, capped twice by his country, has just finished a successful trial period with City and the paper quotes Ashdod owner Jacky Ben Zaken as saying: "They want to take him on loan immediately and want an option to buy him in the future."
If Sky Sports is to believed, Chelsea are on the brink of signing Genk winger Kevin De Bruyne. The Blues were first linked with the 20-year-old last summer but decided against signing the highly-rated youngster. But with Chelsea's season looking as sluggish as the British economy, coach Andre Villas-Boas has decided De Bruyne could kick-start their recovery and ensure they finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Sky says Chelsea will complete the £8m move before the end of the transfer window next week. "The assumption is that Kevin de Bruyne will be transferred to Chelsea and then will finish the season (on loan) at Genk," explained director of sport Dirk Degraen.
Alexander Hleb may collect clubs the way The Artist collects best picture nominations but that doesn't seem to have deterred Liverpool and QPR from chasing the former Arsenal midfielder. Since quitting the Gunners in 2008, the peripatetic Belarusian has had spells at Barcelona, Stuttgart, Birmingham and Wolfsburg. None has worked out and, according to the Metro, Barcelona are anxious to get shot of the 30-year-old after he was returned early from a failed loan deal with Wolfsburg.
Allegedly they hawked Hleb round the Premier League last year but with no one willing to take on his £90,000-a-week wages, the European champions are considering cancelling his contract so he can leave on a free transfer. That's said to have aroused the interest of Liverpool and Rangers, both of whom believe that Hleb still has something to offer. ·
