Wenger set to unveil Thomas Eisfeld in Arsenal colours today

Last day of the transfer window: will there be a deal to match the Torres-Carroll extravaganza?

SO FAR the January transfer market has been slower than David de Gea at a set piece with no big deals done and Arsenal fans still wondering what Andrey Arshavin has to do before he's finally sent packing. That could all change in the next few hours.

Remember this time last year when Liverpool flogged Fernando Torres to Chelsea for £50m in the best bit of business since MySpace sold out to Rupert Murdoch. Trouble was Liverpool then wasted £35m of that sum by bagging Andy Carroll from Newcastle. This time around Liverpool have said they have no intention of signing or selling anyone, with Kenny Dalglish telling Talksport that there will be "nothing happening here".

That's what Arsene Wenger was saying this time last week but now it seems that 'le professeur nutty' has had a change of heart. According to The Guardian, the Gunners will today seal the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Thomas Eisfeld.

The 19-year-old has made a name for himself as an attacking midfielder for the Dortmund Under-19 side having recovered from a horrific knee injury in 2009. Apparently Eisfeld is in London at this very moment to finalise the deal and have the obligatory medical. Provided he has a clean bill of health, Eisfeld will be unveiled today in Arsenal colours.

The Guardian says that the Gunners will hand over a mere £430,000 to Borussia in return for the teenager's services until 2015.

Another player who spent Monday having his heartbeat taken was Genk midfielder Kevin de Bruyne ahead of a move to Chelsea. The 20-year-old was first linked to Stamford Bridge last summer and now it appears the Blues have finally landed the winger in a £6.7m transfer.

The BBC says that de Bruyne will sign a five-and-a-half-year contract and then be loaned back to Genk for the rest of the season. Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is quoted as telling the BBC the deal was down to "club policy for the future".

One deal already done and dusted is Queens Park Rangers' capture of Nancy defensive midfielder Samba Diakite. The signing was revealed on the club's website after the 23-year-old passed a medical on Sunday having flown in from the Gabon where he's appearing for Mali in the African Nations Cup.

"Samba is a young player who has made an impression on French football," said Rangers boss Mark Hughes. "He will give us more physical presence and athleticism in the middle of the park so he is going to be a good addition." It's also believed that QPR are still hopeful of signing striker Djibril Cisse from Lazio before the transfer window closes tonight.

In other news, the Daily Mail reports that Tottenham have begun talks with Manchester City to make their loan deal with striker Emmanuel Adebayor permanent.

The Lilywhites took the Togo hitman on a short-term deal last summer but so impressed have they been with Adebayor that they want to keep him forever. The 27-year-old former Arsenal frontman has scored nine goals for Spurs and the Mail says that the club would pay "in the region of £8m" for him.

Finally The Independent reports that Wayne Bridge is on the brink of finalising a "shock move" to Sunderland. The England left-back has had a miserable time of it at Eastlands for the past year or so but he'll travel today to the north-east and sign a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Indy claims that the 31-year-old Bridge could make his debut as early as Wednesday night when Sunderland play Norwich in the Premier League. It's believed City will continue to pay a share of Bridge's £85,000-a-week salary. ·
