Benfica's Javi Garcia likely to choose Man Utd over Arsenal
Alex Ferguson eyes Spanish midfielder as he plans for life without Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs
BENFICA midfielder Javi Garcia is said to be weighing up the option of a summer move to the Premier League. The 25-year-old Spanish playmaker has lit up Portugal this season with his performances, and according to Talksport he's attracted interest from England as a result. Manchester United and Arsenal are said to be Garcia's most ardent suitors though surely only the sort of man who would deposit his savings in a Greek bank would seriously consider a move to the Emirates.
It's United who look to be in the driving seat to snap up Garcia as manager Alex Ferguson plans for life without Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. Talksport quotes Garcia's agent Manuel Garcia Quilon as saying: "There have been no concrete offers, but he is being followed by two clubs in the Premier League."
Quilon added that there had also been contact from one German and one Italian club though he wouldn't divulge their names.
Tottenham winger David Bentley is looking to get his career back on track with a loan move Stateside. The former England wideman has been down on his luck recently, plagued by injuries and the emergence at the Lane of Gareth Bale.
But the 26-year-old, who joined Spurs in a £17m deal from Blackburn in 2008, is now approaching full fitness and his agent says a short spell in the MLS could be just what Bentley needs. "This is something that is interesting for David, as it will also get him fit," agent Rob Segal is quoted telling goal.com. "He would like to go there on loan as soon as possible."
Segal didn't say which club might be willing to take Bentley but LA Galaxy must be a strong bet as they have a reputation for picking up the waifs and strays of the Premier League.
Liverpool appear to have as much chance of signing Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund as Sean Penn has of being invited to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The Reds have apparently been tailing the Far Eastern frontman, along with AC Milan and Juventus, but the 22-year-old has used an interview with German rag ZDF to rubbish suggestions he might move to Anfield.
"I'm having a terrific time and… I want to stay," said the Japanese international. "I feel so good here, why should I go?" Kagawa has scored seven goals in his 19 Bundesliga matches this season, prompting Dortmund to slap a £20m price tag on the sharpshooter.
Elsewhere AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has told Sky Italia that the club might well be back in for Carlos Tevez at the end of the season. The Italian outfit were linked to the Manchester City striker last month although negotiations stalled. That won't deter them from having another crack in the summer. "We aren't thinking about the market at the moment," replied Galliani when asked if he'd given up on Tevez. "We'll begin to do so in June." ·
