AJAX defender Jan Vertonghen has declared his interest in joining Arsenal. The 24-year-old Belgian international has been linked to the Gunners in recent months and according to the Daily Mirror that suits him fine.

"Arsenal are a magnificent club and I hear a lot of good things about English football," said Vertonghen, who is believed to have asked compatriot Thomas Vermaelen for a lowdown on life with Arsenal.

Asked if he fancied making a move to the Emirates, the Ajax club captain replied: "If a club of Arsenal's calibre can reach an agreement with Ajax, then I will gladly go over. I have instructed my agent carefully. He knows which clubs I want to join, and Arsenal are one of them."

Although Vertonghen was quick to point out he hadn't held official talks with Arsenal, he did say he'd seen them in action against Milan in the Champions League and was mightily impressed.

The Sun claims that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is having second thoughts about walking out on the Reds. Earlier in the month the 25-year-old frontman said he was mulling over a move to Paris Saint Germain but now he seems set on remaining at Anfield.

"I want to stay," he is quoted as saying. "Despite everything that happened, I am very happy here, on and off the pitch. Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with a history… the club are happy with me and want me to stay. I have a contract until 2016 and already want to renew."

French sports daily L'Equipe reports that Aston Villa are the latest Premier League club to declare an interest in Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud.

In recent months Arsenal and Newcastle have both been linked to the French sharpshooter, who scored on his full international debut in last month's friendly against Germany. Now Villa have joined the fray. According to L'Equipe, Villa had a scout in France at the weekend to watch Giroud in action against Nancy and an offer could be forthcoming in the summer.

Italian paper Tuttosport says that Juventus have not given up on signing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. The 19-year-old Frenchman was apparently the target of an offer from the Turin club in January's transfer window but it all came to naught.

However, Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta told Tuttosport: "I am optimistic regarding Pogba. I know that Manchester United are trying everything to keep him there but he has a bright future if he finally comes to Turin."

Finally, the agent of United striker Dimitar Berbatov has confirmed the Bulgarian will be parting ways with the club at the end of the season. Berbatov is rarely used these days at Old Trafford by Alex Ferguson and it appears the United boss has made it clear to the former Spurs striker that the sooner he leaves the better.

"We accept that Ferguson wants to build a new style of play, based around speed," Emil Danchev is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail. "The future of United does not involve Berbatov. We know this." Danchev went on to say that his client sees his future outside England and will probably look to either Germany or Italy. ·
