Serb surprise: Arsenal target Zdravko Kuzmanovic
Stuttgart midfielder joins Schalke's Lewis Holtby on Arsenal's wish-list for the New Year
ARSENAL and Inter Milan are engaged in a bitter fight to sign Bundesliga stars Lewis Holtby and Zdravko Kuzmanovic. According to Italian website Calciomercato.com, the two clubs are both chasing the young pair and are lining up audacious offers for the New Year.
The Gunners have long been linked with the half-English Holtby, but the news that they are also eyeing up Stuttgart midfielder Kuzmanovic will come as a surprise to the Arsenal faithful.
The 25-year-old Serb rose to prominence with Fiorentina before making a record £7m move to Germany in 2009 and establishing himself as a regular in the Serbian national side. Juventus and Lazio were both said to be hovering around last season but the Italian media report that it's now Inter taking an interest in Kuzmanovic.
In other news, French broadcaster Le10Sport carries an interview with the agent of Loic Remy that suggests the Marseille striker is open to offers from the Premier League – provided the money is right.
Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle have all been linked to the 26-year-old French international in recent months, and Bruno Satin told Le10Sport a deal could be done in the New Year: "Marseille needs the money and Remy going could be a solution. If they were to get an offer of £10m, the club would let him leave."
Though Satin refused to speculate on where he might end up, Liverpool are seen as the front-runners for his signature, such is their need for a striker to play alongside Luis Suarez. Remy, who has scored 27 goals in 69 league appearances for Marseille, has spoken highly in the past of Newcastle where former Marseille teammate Hatem Ben Arfa is a fans' favourite.
Talksport reports that Shakhtar Donetsk star Willian is also making overtures to the Premier League. The Brazilian frontman has been in sparkling form for the Ukrainian side this season and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has made no secret of the fact he'd love to get his hands on the sizzling South American.
But Chelsea are also keen on his silky skills, and Willian appears to be weighing up his options. Though he told Brazilian broadcaster Globo Esporte he was content for the moment to remain at Shakhtar, he did add: "As for a possible transfer, there will be offers for sure and I work so that it happens. My club and my representatives will decide my future."
Finally, the Daily Mail claims that Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson is set to revive his interest in Everton defender Leighton Baines after giving up trying to lure Ashley Cole to Old Trafford.
A new left-back is a top priority, says the Mail, with Fergie increasingly concerned about the fragility of the United defence. French defender Patrice Evra is allegedly soon to be heading towards the exit, and in an ideal world Ferguson would want Cole as his replacement. But the Mail says it is "increasingly likely" that the England defender will move to Paris Saint-Germain next year from Chelsea.
As a result Ferguson will turn his attention to the 27-year-old Baines, a player the club first tried to sign in the summer. In that instance Ferguson felt that the £15m Everton were asking was too much, but with United's defence prone to gaffes this season he will "reopen negotiations" in the New Year. ·
