Ozil, Ramsey, Townsend – who starred for team of the week?
London clubs provide an unstoppable midfield as Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea all win
ARSENAL remain top of the Premier League after a bravura performance against Norwich, while Chelsea, Man City and Spurs all won to keep up the pressure on the Gunners. Liverpool could only draw with Newcastle and slip to third, but the top five are now separated by just three points.
Further down the table, Man United's draw with Southampton leaves them eighth, level on points with Hull and Newcastle.
There were plenty of stand-out performances this weekend, particularly from midfielders. Here's our pick of the experts picks:
Asmir Begovic (Stoke). The Bosnian stopper was singled out for praise by manager Mark Hughes after the Potters 0-0 draw with West Brom. Begovic made five saves to keep a clean sheet and his performance was "resplendent" according to Bleacher Report.
Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren (both Southampton), Angel Rangel (Swansea), Phil Jagielka (Everton). Southampton appear impregnable at the moment having conceded three goals in eight games. A visit to Old Trafford will always test a team's defensive mettle, and once again the Saints stood firm as they drew 1-1. Lovren is the reason for Saints' success says Garth Crooks of the BBC, while Clyne appears in his and the Daily Mirror's team of the week. Rangel was the highest-scoring defender in Premier League fantasy football this week and Crooks describes Jagielka as "Mr Dependable".
Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Andros Townsend (Spurs), Eden Hazard (Chelsea). A huge amount of competition in midfield this week, and the final four were all outstanding. Ozil netted twice for Arsenal and his importance to Arsenal is clear, according to Eurosport. "The German dictated Arsenal's attacks and continues to make his team-mates play to a higher standard." As for Ramsey, he may have been a sub, but he put in a "ridiculous 53-minute shift", says Bleacher Report, scoring one and creating another. And if they were good, what about Andros Townsend? Another "brilliant performance" according to Eurosport, earns him a place in the final XI. The fourth midfielder is Hazard, the highest-scoring fantasy player this week thanks to two goals and an assist for Chelsea.
Sergio Aguero (Man city), Roberto Soldado (Spurs). Aguero gets the nod from almost all the experts after a fine display against West Ham, which he capped with two goals. Garth Crooks selects him for his team, but also pays tribute to his suppliers Yaya Toure and David Silva. Roberto Soldado put in a big shift for Spurs and earned 12 fantasy points, plus a spot in the Mirror team of the week. ·
