City players sing from the same hymn sheet over Tevez return

Carlos Tevez

The Argentine could be on bench against Chelsea as players agree he's like 'new signing'

MANCHESTER CITY'S crunch match with Chelsea on Wednesday could be significant in more ways than one as Roberto Mancini prepares to bring errant striker Carlos Tevez back into the fold, six months after his mutiny on the subs bench at Bayern Munich.

The Argentine is expected to be on the bench for the game at the Etihad Stadium after proving his fitness since his return from exile last month. He has made two appearances for the reserves since he came back and is now ready to resume his City career.

It remains to be seen how the City faithful will react should he take to the field in the must-win clash with rejuvenated Chelsea on Wednesday night. But if he scores the winner it could make all the difference in the title race.

City are now four points behind United but have a game in hand. However, if they lose to the Londoners, it will take the the title race out of their hands, and if United are more than three points ahead of their rivals by the time the two teams meet at the end of April then the result may be irrelevant.

City therefore are desperate to remain within a point or two of United, and Tevez could prove crucial.

Certainly the City players all appear to have been paying attention to the club's media officer when he told them how to respond to questions about the player.

Goalkeeper Joe Hart told The Sun: "We've got energy in the team and we've got a lot of firepower... But having Carlos back will be like a new signing."

"He's like a new signing," added Joleon Lescott when asked about Tevez by The Daily Telegraph.

And James Milner told the Sunday Mirror: "Having him back is like getting a new signing and he can still have a big impact on what happens this season." ·
