Morrison and Zaha fight during England U-21 match – video
The two starlets may also end up battling each other for a place in the England World Cup squad
TWO of English football's brightest young hopes, set to become rivals for a place in the 2014 World Cup squad, almost came to blows during the Under-21's clash with Lithuania last night.
Bad-boy made good Ravel Morrison clashed with Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha after a free kick in the closing stages of England's impressive 5-0 win at Portman Road, prompting concerns that the West Ham player has not completely changed his ways.
The altercation took place towards the end of the game with the score at 5-0, shortly after Morrison, who had already scored twice, had been denied his hat-trick when Saido Berahino was selected to take an England penalty.
Morrison was clearly upset that Berahino had been chosen to take the spot kick, which was scored, but kept his cool until Zaha began berating him after the free kick.
The Man United winger appeared annoyed about something following the set piece and took it up with Morrison, who reacted by appearing to push Zaha in the face. Norwich player Nathan Redmond rushed in to keep the pair apart. Zaha appeared incensed as Morrison walked away.
Both players have had meteoric rises to Premier League fame and caught the eye of Alex Ferguson. Morrison was one of the most promising players to emerge from Man United's youth structure, but was beset with off-field problems. Fergie eventually washed his hands of him in January 2012, selling the 18-year-old to West Ham, although two years later he has finally started to establish himself as a genuine talent.
Zaha, on the other hand, became Ferguson's last signing as Man United boss, when he was lured from Crystal Palace in a £15m deal in January 2013.
With England now on their way to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup and Roy Hodgson apparently converted to an attacking style of play, the pair could be in contention for a place in the senior squad. ·
