Call of Juarez game back with 'criminally fun' Gunslinger
After its flop Cartel, the Juarez series is back on form with a series of western-style gun duels
What you need to knowThe western-themed shooter video game Call of Juarez: Gunslinger has been released in the UK. The latest in the series, following Cartel, returns to the old American west and features a series of gun duels.
Gunslinger is the story of bounty hunter and unreliable narrator Silas Greaves, who recounts his increasingly far-fetched exploits to the patrons of a saloon. Players relive his famous duels with a series of legendary outlaws including Butch Cassidy and Billy the Kid and can choose story, arcade and duel game modes.
What the critics like"Couch desperados looking for shootouts with some of the toughest hombres to ever wear a 10-gallon hat need only answer the Call of Juarez: Gunslinger", says Joseph Szadkowski in the Washington Times. Fans of the franchise have finally been rewarded with an inexpensive and entertaining spaghetti western.

Gunslinger's return to the Wild West after the unpopular Cartel is "everything you hoped for in a Call of Juarez game", says Jen Bosier in Forbes. Full of tongue-in-cheek humour and self-awareness, it succeeds as a fun, linear shooter that explores historic icons without taking itself seriously.
Gunslinger is "criminally fun", says Colin Moriarty on IGN. It weaves an interesting story with almost comedic violence and some surprisingly pretty art to stand out in a genre primarily occupied by military shooters.
What they don't likeThe action is often "little more than a turkey shoot", says Edge Online. It's a terrific genre piece, but it may not be enough to rouse those with shooter fatigue.
