Couture accessory company Brikk has begun taking pre-orders for its bespoke, diamond-encrusted Lux iPhone 7.

The new smartphone, showcased last night at an Apple keynote event in California, is disassembled and then hand-polished before being plated with layers of precious metal. You can choose between yellow gold, pink gold, or platinum, and have the device encrusted with small or large diamonds should you wish to splash out.

The luxury lifestyle company bills its creation as "the most opulent iPhone the world has ever seen".

Apple's new phone is a controversial one. The device has no headphone jack – the port has been axed in favour of packing more features into the 7.1mm thin frame.

Both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus get improved camera systems – the hardware fitted to the Plus is the most advanced camera fitted to an iPhone so far. It's a dual sensor setup with optical zoom capabilities.

In terms of look and feel, the phones are refined versions of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus rather than all-new designs. The devices are the exact same sizes as their predecessors and use the same aluminium casing but with neater antenna bands. Prices start at £599, though buyers of Brikk's deluxe version will pay a great deal more.

There are several options for customers to choose from: the Deluxe Standard, Deluxe Double and Deluxe Triple, as well as the higher-end Bespoke Collection Imperial models. Prices range from $4,995 to US$1.3 million (£3,740 to £973,500).

Orders, with a ten per cent deposit, can be placed on the Brikk website.

The Lux iPhone will be packed in a Zero Halliburton case with a carbon fibre and suede leather interior, alongside a sapphire glass screen protector and a diamond-embedded certificate of authenticity.

Extras include customized gold studio headphones and a matching gold and diamond power bank.
