Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho stars in 'Special Ones' cartoon
Edgy former Chelsea boss will 'help children develop' in new animation series
HE MIGHT not seem the ideal role model for children, but the controversial Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is set to become the star of a cartoon series called 'Mourinho & the Special Ones'.
The CGI animation will feature the 48-year-old, who became known as the Special One when he was manager of Chelsea, as the coach at a football school. According to the BBC, "He will help children develop as football players and human beings".
The concept might sound unlikely, given that Mourinho was once described by Uefa as "the enemy of football". But the Portuguese company behind the idea, Sports Stars Media, are looking for investors in the UK and hopes to list its shares on the AIM stock exchange in London.
The BBC reports that the firm "has the rights to use Mourinho's image for the purposes of developing and marketing the CGI animation".
His impending conversion from professional controversialist and wind-up merchant to children's TV hero could explain why Mourinho kept his counsel after his Real Madrid side lost to Barcelona at the weekend.
Last time the two teams met, the self-styled Special One saw fit to poke one of the Barca coaches in the eye.
This time he was unusually taciturn and refused to point the finger of blame at outside forces, instead simply remarking of the defeat: "Luck plays a part."
Real took a sensational lead in the game at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid after just 23 seconds, but were eventually beaten 3-1, as a 15-game winning streak came to an end and Barcelona rose above them in the Spanish league. ·
