Vauxhall Adam hatchback: a fun car you can personalise
What the motoring press is saying about Vauxhall Adam hatchback
Price: £11,255 - £14,000
Pros: Cute, with lots of personalisation options, well priced with affordable options, quality is good
Cons: Not much space for rear passengers, ride can feel a bit hard, engines aren’t especially economical
"If you like the MINI and Fiat 500, then the Vauxhall Adam could be for you. Vauxhall has taken a slightly more modern approach, with the supermini Adam closer to the Audi A1 than the more retro MINIs – but crucially, it's cheaper than both. Key to this type of car is personalisation, and there are up to 30,000 different options to choose from on the Adam. It's a small car with little space inside, and it's not the most exciting car to drive, with sluggish engines and a firm ride. Economy and emissions figures are a bit disappointing, too. But it's appealing nonetheless, especially when it's tailored precisely to your own tastes."
4/5, Auto Express
"The Adam is a smart and fun-filled city car. It's exciting to drive with a bold image that takes in-car customisation and gadgets to new heights for this market. But the cramped rear and lack of a sub-100g/km model could put off buyers who are already spoiled for choice."
3/5, What Car?
"Add a few options (let's face it, you probably won't be able to resist) and you'll be looking at the thick end of £12,000. Discounts will also be relatively modest by Vauxhall standards, because dealer margins are smaller than on the company's larger models. However, if the Adam establishes itself as a fashion icon, that high price won't be a deal-breaker, because you'll get a lot of your cash back when you sell. Besides, the Adam takes the art of car customisation to an entirely new level."
