Jeep Wrangler SUV: "capable off road, but expensive to run"
What the motoring press is saying about the Jeep Wrangler SUV
Price: £28,665 - £33,095
Pros: Good off-road ability, cheaper than rivals, removable hard-top.
Cons: Very uncomfortable, poor resale value, expensive to run
1.4/5, Carbuyer "It's true that the Jeep Wrangler can go many places than most other cars simply can’t - the big question is whether you would want to go there with it. Being nice, it's a rugged, formidable off-roader with big dimensions and it dominates the road. It's an evolution from the kind of vehicles that the US military used in the Second World War – and it shows. Being not so nice, luxury and comfort have been completely neglected and while the current Wrangler is a better on-road performer than its forebears it is nowhere near good enough to compete with other SUVs and 4x4s out there from the likes of Land Rover – the Land Rover Defender has always been more popular in the UK than the Wrangler and it's obvious why. Resale values in the used car market are equally poor as a result. The Jeep Wrangler comes in two main specifications – entry-level Sahara and top-of-the-range Overland."
4/5, Auto Express "The expanded Wrangler line-up offers more on-road comfort and day-to-day practicality than ever, and it manages to achieve this without sacrificing Jeep's famous off-road abilities. This spacious four-door model has a unique appeal, while the new 2.8-litre diesel engine is another welcome introduction to the range."
3/5, What Car? "The Wrangler undercuts the equivalent Land Rover Defender on purchase price, and comes with a good deal more equipment. The cabin is every bit as utilitarian as you'd expect, but it's nowhere near as basic as the Defender's and feels much more like a mainstream car."
2/5, Parker’s "For the first time the Wrangler is available as a four door model and compared to the Land Rover Defender 110 SW, it is good value. It may lack the credibility that the Defender has in the UK, but it's reasonably well equipped and has proven off-road credentials." ·
