Renault ZOE: "affordable electric car ownership"
What the motoring press is saying about the Renault ZOE hatchback
Price: £18,443 - £20,043
Pros: Quiet driving experience, well-equipped as standard, zero emissions
Cons: Electric range still limited, slightly awkward design, feels heavy in corners
2.7/5, Carbuyer "Electric cars' biggest battle has always been price. As good as many EVs have become, they tend to cost a lot, basically ruling out a large proportion of potential buyers who want to make the jump away from burning fossil fuels (at least directly). But now the Renault ZOE brings electric car ownership into the affordable range. The ZOE is spacious, well equipped and costs the same as a diesel Clio - although it still suffers from perennial problems with electric cars, its range of around 100 miles still falling a quite a long way short of the kind of distance a conventional car can cover on a tank of fuel. However, the quiet, smooth driving experience is truly relaxing, while the quickly accessed power of the electric motor allows you to make very quick getaways from the traffic lights when driving in town. It keeps up with traffic with no real difficulties on the motorway, too, so if you have the space to charge the car at home (and tend to mainly drive short distances), the ZOE is just as easy to own as any regular supermini. "
4/5, Auto Express "Price and performance have traditionally hindered electric cars. Yet the ZOE drives like a slightly heavy but extremely refined supermini, while its price is similar to that of a diesel-powered Clio. If you can live with the range, you'll travel in more comfort and at less cost to the environment if you drive a ZOE. "
4/5, What Car? "If you're sold on the prospect of an electric car for regular use, then yes; the Zoe is the best option available at the moment. It's a great supermini with an electric motor, rather than a car that is defined and restricted by its zero-emissions mantra. "
4/5, MSN Cars " The Zoe is Renault's best electric vehicle yet, combining a useable range and quick recharging times with nippy performance. It's a well-executed, practical and stylish package. At £13,995 for the base model, it's keenly priced and might tempt some away from regular compact hatchbacks as a second car. " ·
