Mitsubishi Outlander SUV: 'modest, but practical and safe'

What the motoring press is saying about the Mitsubishi Outlander

LAST UPDATED AT 14:33 ON Thu 5 Dec 2013

Price: £23,879 - £34,229

Pros: Massive load area, practical seven seats, super-efficient hybrid model

Cons: Dated interior, diesel lacks refinement, awkward rear-seat access

2.4/5 Carbuyer “The Mitsubishi Outlander is a solid and sturdy SUV that has excellent cabin space and a huge boot, while also offering the only genuine hybrid SUV in the UK (due for release in spring 2014). Its off-road capabilities are excellent and all but the hybrid can carry five full-sized adults plus two children, in relative comfort. It's even good for towing a caravan or trailer. It may lack a bit of sparkle – especially inside – compared to its rivals, such as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Land Rover Freelander, but it is cheap to run in either diesel or ultra-efficient hybrid form.

3/5 What Car? "The new Outlander won’t win any prizes for its dynamics, but it's decent enough to drive and the well-presented interior, with all its space and versatility, make the car a tempting choice for those with big families."

3/5 Auto Express "The Mitsubishi Outlander is a spacious, comfortable and practical rival to the Freelander, with an efficient hybrid version."

6/10 Top Gear "If you don't get excited by driving, a perfectly acceptable way to ferry kids and clobber around. Lacks something more, though." ·
