Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James

ALREADY a phenomenal publishing success story, the Fifty Shades of Grey book series is now set to hit the music charts with its own soundtrack.

EMI Classics has announced it will release Fifty Shades of Grey - The Classical Album a 15 track album of classical music curated by Fifty Shades author, E.L. James and featuring music mentioned in the trilogy.

James has already proposed soundtracks to all three of her steamy books on her website, though those collections feature both contemporary pop and rock songs as well as classical numbers.

New York Daily News reports that the many classical music references within the erotic Fifty Shades trilogy have already led to increased sales for the namedropped pieces.

Spem in Alium, a 16th century choral piece sung by The Tallis Scholars, is referred to in the first book of the series, in a passage where the novel’s heroine, Ana, is tied up by her sadistic lover Christian, who places headphones on her head. The passage continues:

"The singing starts again ... building and building, and he rains down blows on me ... and I groan and writhe ... Lost in him, lost in the astral, seraphic voices ... I am completely at the mercy of his expert touch ..."

Not surprisingly, perhaps, sales of the track have skyrocketed as a result.

The Hollywood Reporter says the soundtrack will include the Tallis Scholars' song, along with 14 other classics mentioned the series, including the Flower Duet from Lakmé, the Aria from Bach's Goldberg Variations,  Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring as well as “that quintessential kinky sex anthem” Pachelbel's Canon

In a statement, James said: "I am thrilled that the classical pieces that inspired me while I wrote the Fifty Shades Trilogy are being brought together in one collection for all lovers of the books to enjoy."

Fifty Shades of Grey - The Classical Album will get a digital release on 21 August before the CD appears in stores on 18 September. ·
