Donald Trump fired from movie by Oliver Stone
The Donald has been cut from ‘Wall Street’ sequel by Gordon Gekko creator
Hair today, gone tomorrow: tycoon Donald Trump has had his cameo appearance, filmed in a real New York barber's shop, snipped from Oliver Stone's new film. But Stone says The Donald will at least feature in the DVD release of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
Trump was just one of many New York businessmen, socialites and journalists to film a walk-on appearance for the long-awaited sequel to the decade-defining 1980s classic, Wall Street, which will be premiered tonight at the city's classy Ziegfeld cinema.
Those who did make the cut include the worlds third-richest man, Warren Buffet, Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter and Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia. And there is a long roster of Manhattan's great and good less well-known on this side of the Atlantic.
Trump's now-deleted scene was filmed last winter at Tommy Guns Salon on the Lower East Side. It showed Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko calling in for a trim and finding himself next to Trump, playing himself.
Trump recommends his famous Barnett to Gekko, but the fictional trader demurs. "No thanks, Donald, I'm a gel man," he tells him.
The cameo certainly sounds pretty embarrassing for all concerned, not least the viewers, but Stone told the New York Post he had taken the scissors to Trump purely because the scene was too close to the end of the movie. "I think we put him in too late," said the Platoon director. "I only cut it because it was distracting."
Also hitting the cutting room floor is our own David Cameron's stepfather-in-law, Lord William Astor. Stone did not explain what his expunged scene contained.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps picks up the story of Gordon 'Greed is Good' Gekko, the villainous Wall Street trader, as he trains a young protégé, played by Shia LeBeouf. It will be on general release in the US from this Friday, and in the UK from October 6. ·
