Sad ending to David Beckham’s Thai massage
News of World follows Beckham to the massage parlour - but nothing stands up
The News of the World was in the doghouse today for a desperate attempt to suggest that David Beckham had visited a Thai massage centre in Los Angeles with something other than a good back rub on his mind.
The paper published grainy photos of the 35-year-old footballer exiting the Lamai massage parlour in Venice Beach last Monday when his wife, Victoria, was out of town.
Yet despite every effort to suggest the inevitable - it was a "cheap" massage parlour, the rubdowns are given in "private booths" and, of course, such establishments are "notorious for offering happy endings" - the accompanying report was unable to reach the climax it was clearly aiming for.
The masseuse, Al Manomai, far from offering any devastating revelations, said only: "He wanted his leg and back worked on but told me to be careful of his ankle as he has an injury. I was standing on his back and we did a lot of stretches."
The multi-millionaire footballer and fragrance poster-boy gave her a $20 tip on top of the $40 fee - good, but not much more than the average, said Al.
Having started off so promisingly under the headline 'Me, David Beckham, in a £26 a time Thai massage parlour?' the story concluded limply: "Lamai does not provide sex services and bills itself as a reputable centre for injury treatments and deep-tissue massage."
Not every celebrity-hunting News of the World reporter can enjoy a happy ending. ·

It is about time someone taught these low-life journos a lesson.
Their sham holier than thou articles would look a bit sad if someone were to post a story on their personal proclivities. I doubt their are many of the scum whose personal lives would stand up to close scrutiny, I await some input.
Amazing what people can make out of nothing!
Why is it that for every Woodward, Bernstein, Paul Foot or John Pilger, the press seems to throw up twenty scum-sucking scandal-gits?
Oh, it's because it's a demand-led economy, the great British public's thirst for filth and trivia. Or so the papers tell us...
What a load of nonsense. Coulson was well out of this rubbish paper, as one hopes he realises.
Stimulation of the circulation through sensitive Oriental massage is excellent for body parts. Trust the News of the World to drege for smut. The Orient was civilized when were were still running around painting ourselves.
Looking to make a buck by destroying other people's lives. Shame on you so called journalists who go to such shallow methods.
