Jealousy International risks controversy on anniversary of Diana’s death

A Chinese lingerie company has unveiled a range of 'Diana underwear' using a Princess of Wales lookalike model, apparently cashing in on the 13th anniversary of her death on August 31, 1997.

Although this is a date more likely to be recalled in Britain than China, the ads – produced for Jealousy International, a company based in the southern city of Foshan - feature a tiara-clad model dressed in light blue bra and knickers playing a cello to a child. They have been displayed on giant billboards in shops and airports across China.

"Feel the romance of British royalty, Diana underwear" the tagline reads, while the manufacturer's website rather confusingly calls Diana's taste "French Romantic".

Britain has restrictions on using images of royalty to promote products but is powerless to act against firms doing so abroad. A Jealousy International representative told China Radio today that the "Diana line" was supposed to honour Diana's taste in underwear.

Clarence House, which represents Prince Charles, declined to comment. But Alan Berry, co-founder of the Diana Appreciation Society, set up to preserve her memory, said: "It does seem to be just blatant exploitation of a dead lady's name."

Meanwhile, people gathered outside Diana's former London home, Kensington Palace, yesterday, leaving floral tributes and cards on the railings to mark the anniversary. ·

I'm sure Lady Diana would've found this hilarious...I mean the Royals she married into were a laughing stock!

They should have used Queens Victoria lookalike for at her time they sure have used a lot more fabric than today

Can't imagine what sound the cello makes when held and bowed like that-Chinese opera?

Citroen had the 'CV Diana' and a mans' magazine printed pictures of a Princess Diana look alike in the style of some voyeuristic camera work apparently taken whilst the late Princess exercised in a private gymnasium. Now we have Chinese lingerie branded as 'Diana' and a Diana look alike model to enforce the branding - so what?
How soon before someone named 'Doreen' sues Triumph for naming a bra after her.
There's some very sad people about today with no lives of their own who are very likely to leave bunches of flowers stuffed in the railings at Kensington Palace; having a lingerie brand to moan about is just up their street.
