Talent show contestants damage antiques and Persian rug in Marbella mayhem

LAST UPDATED AT 12:46 ON Tue 31 Aug 2010

No smirking please: drunken contestants in The X Factor have caused thousands of pounds of damage to the luxury villa rented by the show's creator, Simon Cowell, in the south of Spain.

Drunk on Cowell's stock of Sapporo beer, the wannabe pop stars apparently damaged antique furniture and wrecked a £5,000 Persian rug.

That was after they had woken Cowell on their late arrival at the villa near Marbella, where they are supposed to be mentored by him for the next stage of the talent show.

"Yes, they did wake me up," Cowell told reporters. "To teach them a lesson, any damage to the villa will have to be paid out of their first royalty cheque - if they make it."

This is not the first time contestants in this series of The X Factor have wreaked havoc. Police were called to a London hotel last month during the "boot camp" stage of the show after drunken contestants ran through the corridors naked.

The identity of the owner of the villa rented to Cowell has not yet been revealed. Other names property owners abroad might want to avoid when they're next taking bookings are: Walsh (Louis), Tweedy (Cheryl) and Minogue (Dannii). ·

What do expect? It is a scumbag programme and that is how scumbags behave. No doubt the TV people will still run the show; it is good for ratings (amongst scumbags).

Cowell should rent some "suites" in a Borstal or somesuch next time. No alcohol or drugs, and plenty of the cat or birch will help control the useless slobs.
BTW Mr Steele, the villa was rented, which if anything makes the behaviour even worse.

I like Simon Cowell & it's a shame in this day & age when jobs are so hard to find that these people will ruin their chance of getting in to the music they claim to love. What chance have they got now? Even if they were to get through they won't get a good reference from Simon or anyone else on the judging team! That's what drink does to some people ..... it sends them loopy! Maybe next time Simon shouldn't let them into his lovely home but use a hotel instead & give them the bill for the damage! Let's also hope it isn't someone with talent! If it is then tough! Can't wait for Saturday to watch it some more....
