‘Embarrassed’ Nordegren never suspected Tiger
I have not watched one minute of golf since, she says in ‘first and last’ interview
In what she says will be her first and last interview about her divorce, Elin Nordegren has told People magazine that she never suspected Tiger Woods had mistresses. She felt "blindsided" and "embarrassed" when she found out about his affairs.
"I never suspected, not a one," she said. "For the last three-and-a-half years, when all this was going on, I was home a lot more with pregnancies, then the children and my school."
As the media unveiled the parade of mistresses - some real, some imagined - she felt "stupid".
"How could I not have known anything? The word 'betrayal' isn't strong enough. I felt like my whole world had fallen apart."
The interview was published less than 48 hours after her six-year marriage to Woods was dissolved by a Florida court on Monday.
"I've been through hell," she told People, adding that she had lost weight and even some of her hair since her marriage fell apart. "It's hard to think you have this life and then, all of a sudden, was it a lie?
"I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family that I so badly wanted for my children."
She said she and Tiger had tried to patch up their marriage. "Initially, I thought we had a chance, and we tried really hard." But she soon realised the betrayal had been too great for the marriage to survive.
Nordegren, 30, would not discuss her settlement, estimated by the media to be somewhere between $100m and $500m. "Money can't buy happiness or put my family back together," she said.
On the subject of golf, she had two things to say.
First, she never attacked Tiger with a golf club on the night he drove his SUV into a fire hydrant last November. "There was never any violence inside or outside our home," she said. "The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous."
Second, there was one thing she would not miss in her new 'single' life with her two children. "I have not watched one minute of golf," she revealed. ·

When I have an alluring consort I am flattered by the approaches of other men to her. Any woman who takes a billionaire sportsman as a husband and never expected attention to him by other women is socially deliquent.
