Jean Paul Gaultier puts striptease on the catwalk at Paris fashion show

Jean Paul Gaultier reclaimed his crown as French fashion's enfant terrible yesterday when he enlisted burlesque artist Dita Von Teese for a striptease at his Paris haute couture week show. Any notions that haute couture is still about flouncy ballgowns and bespoke wedding dresses were rapidly shed as Von Teese stripped down to a barely there, black beaded corset, thong and suspenders.

The Daily Telegraph's fashion editor Hilary Alexander promptly dubbed the show Gaultier's "hot" couture collection, particularly as guests - including actress Catherine Deneuve and photographer Mario Testino - sat in sweltering, sauna-like conditions.

Gaultier's show explored Parisian glamour with models sporting dramatic turbans, fur stoles and cigarette holders. So nothing seemed amiss as Von Teese sashayed onto the catwalk in a long Thirties-style black dress - until she started peeling it off in sections, beginning with the left sleeve.

The outfit is part of a new collaboration between Gaultier and underwear designer La Perla. The high-fashion range will retail from €500 for a lingerie set when it comes out in November.

The La Perla collection also makes a nod to Gaultier's other American muse, Madonna. A waist-cinching corset and cone bra are similar to the outfit Gaultier designed for the singer's 1990 Ambition tour. ·

Fur stoles wrapped around strippers..........how classy Monsieur Gaultier.
And shame on the 'celebs' who applaud it.

Fur stoles? Skinned alive for people? For these people? People who think nothing is wrong with looking 'hot' regardless of who suffers. But it's just animals, right? Who's the beast here?

This "fashion" stuff has been teetering on the ridiculous for years. It has now fallen totally over the line. Who in their right mind (ah! maybe that's the key?) would wear, see or be seen in such un-beautiful garb?
