Seinfeld calls Gaga ‘a jerk’ for using Mets box

‘I hate her’ says comedian after Lady Gaga hid from snappers at Mets game

Jerry Seinfeld has become embroiled in an unlikely spat with Lady Gaga that could come straight from his old TV show, Seinfeld. The comedian has called the singer "a jerk" after she used his private box at the New York Mets’ stadium to hide from photographers.

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, attended the game at the Mets' Citi Field stadium on June 10 wearing nothing but a black rhinestone-studded bra and knicker set and quickly found that the press photographers were training their lenses on her rather than the game. After objecting to the attention - at one point Gaga gave the fingers to the snappers - she was escorted to a private box which happened to be Seinfeld's.

Seinfeld, a diehard Mets fans, originally brushed off the fact that Gaga - a New York Yankees fan - had been allowed in his box. But this week he unleashed an astonishing rant against the 24-year-old Poker Face singer, telling a New York sports radio station that he “hated her”.

"This woman is a jerk,” he told the WFAN station. “I can’t believe they put her in my box, which I paid for. You give people the finger and you get upgraded? It's pathetic.”

In an outburst that could be plucked from a Seinfeld script, the 56-year-old comedian continued: "She's a jerk. What is she giving the finger [for]? What's the finger anyway? Speaking of interesting and new, how old is the finger? How did it even get to be the finger?"

However Seinfeld did reveal some form of grudging admiration for Lady Gaga when he admitted: "She is talented. I don't know why she's doing this stuff."

Lady Gaga has not commented on Seinfeld’s outburst but she has admitted to Rolling Stone that she frequently feels insecure. She said: "When I wake up in the morning, I feel just like any other insecure 24-year-old girl, then I say, 'You're Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today'."

Gaga appears on the cover of Rolling Stone (above) next month posing with machine guns and wearing nothing but a tiny leather bra and G-string. "I don't even drink water onstage in front of anybody, because I want them to focus on the fantasy of the music," she tells the magazine. ·
