Police see Tory MP and her lover on film after she finds secret ceiling camera

Conservative party bosses are said to be anxious that more extramarital affairs will to come to light following the discovery of MP Caroline Nokes's tryst with a Tory councillor 10 years her junior, reported on The First Post a week ago.

This is because, with the cut in second-home allowances following last year's expenses saga, more MPs are using hotel rooms for their overnight stays in London. As result, cheating parliamentarians are more vulnerable to exposure than they might have been when staying in private apartments.

The alarm has been raised by Tory officials after news emerged that Nokes's affair only came to light when she discovered a secret camera in her hotel room.

After her lover James Dinsdale left her hotel room on the evening described in last week's revelations, Nokes stayed the night alone at the Kensington Close Hotel.

Now it transpires that in the morning, coming out of the shower, Nokes saw a camera with a velcro strap hanging off it, lying on the bed. Looking up, she could see marks on the ceiling from where it had clearly fallen.

At this stage - bizzarely, some might say - she decided to hand the camera to Tory whips at the House of Commons. According to the Mail on Sunday, they passed her on to the Serjeant at Arms, Jill Pay, who called in Special Branch.

The police looked at the video, which showed Nokes and Dinsdale having sex. They chose not to take the matter further because there no evidence a crime had been committed.

According to the Mail, Nokes did not let this embarrassment, nor the revelations about her affair in last Sunday's News of the World, prey on her mind. She attended the Commons last Monday, accompanied by another so-called 'Cameron cutie', Louise Bagshawe, and "went out of her way to show that she would not be cowed by the incident".

In the meantime, Nokes's businessman husband has still not commented on his wife's affair. However, James Dinsdale's wife Georgina, from whom he is separated, has spoken up. "Cad is too good a word for him," she said on learning that his affair with Nokes had begun before she and Dinsdale broke up.

Georgina Dinsdale also revealed that Nokes had declined an invitation to he and James's wedding. But she had sent a gift - a rolling pin.

Anxious that the Nokes affair might not be the last to embarrass the party leadership, an unnamed Tory party official told the Mail: "MPs need to realise that, with more of them staying in hotels, more could be targeted in this way. They need to behave responsibly and be on their guard." ·
