The pressure on Roger Federer to win Wimbledon for the seventh time is intense. Not only is he ambitious to match Pete Sampras’s record-breaking seven singles titles at the All England Club – but Oxfam stands to win £100,000 if the Swiss maestro can crack it.Seven years ago, an Oxfordshire man, Nicholas Newlife from Kidlington, staked £1,520 at odds of 66/1 on Federer to win seven Wimbledons before the year 2020.Newlife died in February 2009, at the age of 69, leaving his entire estate – which included the betting slips for various cricket and tennis wagers -  to Oxfam. If Federer wins the tournament, the charity will get a payout of £101,840.Federer begins his campaign on Monday when he takes on the Colombian Alejandro Falla. That should be no contest - but then it gets trickier. He faces Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic and former champion Lleyton Hewitt in the same top half of the draw.If he can get past that lot, he is destined to meet his Spanish nemesis Rafael Nadal in the final. Nadal, despite being seeded second after Federer in the south London tournament, recently overtook him in the world rankings, becoming number one after winning the Roland Garros in Paris.Oxfam, which receives about 10 per cent of its income from estates, will have its fingers crossed for Federer. But if he doesn’t succeed this time, he still has until the summer of 2019 to deliver, under the terms of Newlife's bet. ·
