Freedom Flotilla Arab- Israeli MP in death threat
Facebook group calls for execution of Flotilla survivor Haneen Zuabi
Haneen Zuabi, an Arab-Israeli member of the Knesset who was aboard the Gaza-bound aid flotilla, is under armed protection after more than 1,000 people signed up to a Facebook page calling for her execution.
Zuabi, a member of the Arab nationalist party Balad, was on board the Mavi Marmara when it was fired upon by Israeli naval boats and boarded by commandos in international waters on Monday.
A parliamentary session in the Israeli Knesset this week collapsed into chaos when Zuabi was attacked by political rivals for joining the Freedom Flotilla. The 41-year-old was sworn at and then shoved out of the chamber, amid shouts of, "Go to Gaza, traitor."
Zuabi has told journalists how, after Israeli commandos abseiled aboard the Mavi Marmara from helicopters, she went to the ship's hold where she found two dead passengers and two who were seriously injured. Zuabi - who is an articulate Hebrew speaker - claimed that Israeli soldiers refused her requests for medical assistance for the wounded activists. The pair died shortly after.
Zuabi, who became the first female Arab member of the Knesset when she was elected last year, has parliamentary immunity, which is why she avoided house arrest. Fellow Arab Israelis aboard the Mavi Marmara were initially imprisoned and are still under house arrest . ·
