Tiger Woods divorce looks inevitable after Nike ad
Commercial featuring golfer’s late father, and news of another tryst, are ‘the last straw’
According to US media reports, it is now inevitable that Elin Nordegren will file for divorce from her husband Tiger Woods. She is reported by Radaronline to have had lengthy talks with a divorce lawyer at the home she is renting in Orlando, Florida before flying to Arizona on a private trip without her husband.
After the humiliation of discovering her husband's infidelities, she is said to be perplexed by the indecent speed with which he has returned to golf, and concerned that he is not sincere about building a new life with her following his sex addiction therapy.
Having declared at his famous 'mea culpa' press conference in February that he had no idea when he would be ready to return to professional golf, suggesting that he might need a year or more off, it was announced within weeks that Tiger would play in the US Masters.
And having said last Sunday, following his defeat at Augusta, that he was going to "take time to re-evaluate", suggesting that he might have made his comeback too early, it was reported yesterday that Woods has submitted his entry form to play in the US Open, starting on June 17 at Pebble Beach.
"Tiger seems to believe, 'I've done my penance, now can I please get back to my golf?'" one US golf writer told The First Post. "But Elin isn't nearly ready for that. She was devastated by what emerged about her husband's secret life and needs a lot, lot longer to come to terms with it - if she ever can."
The last straw for Nordegren, according to US media, was the bizarre television commercial her husband agreed to film with Nike to coincide with his Masters appearance, which featured the voice of his late father.
"Elin was violently angry over this commercial and thought it was a cheesy thing to do," a friend reportedly told People magazine. "She wouldn't have gone near the Masters under any condition but that just made her madder."
Another "last straw" may have been the revelation of yet another tryst - this time not with a Las Vegas bargirl, but with a neighbour's 21-year-old daughter in Isleworth, Florida.
Either way, when Tiger got home from Augusta, his wife had left town, having been seen boarding a private jet bound for Scottsdale, Arizona, but not before inviting a divorce lawyer to visit her.
The gossip sites are convinced it's all over bar the shouting - which is likely to be over the amount of her settlement. The ballpark figure is $300m - double the record $150m paid by basketball star Michael Jordan to his former wife Juanita.

Can we ease up Tiger now? Ok so he did absolute stupidity, is he going to pay forever? He apologised. He did his time. He took the requisite treatment, oh gorsh, let the man breathe. He made a mistake - who hasn't? Who amonsgt all of us hasn't? And who are we therefore to be forever judgmental? Elin has already made a mint of money off of him. Had he not married her she would have been a baby-sitter or whatever - so she is sitting pretty, but did she work all the years to accomplish what he has? No she didn't. State laws aside, did she earn half his money? He worked. He worked long and hard. He tolerated the hot sun, rain, racism, jokes, poor sportaman ship from other golfing professionals; insults from the media (despite others probably having done what he has or worse). What else do the media want from him? For him to beg? Grovel? Fail? Is that what will make you happy? Be honest with yourself media people, what do you want to see? I say leave the guy alone. He's the best golf player in the world - accept it and let's encourage him to excel.... in all spheres of life rather than tear him to pieces. Let's try something different for once, journalists and be consrtuctive.
Why is "sex addiction" not in sneer quotes? C'mon -- one is no more "addicted" to sex, than one is "addicted" to infidelity. Tiger's trysts are nothing more than a man taking advantage of his celebrity to do what many men would do in similar circumstances. Infedility is not a medical condition, but a failure of character.
