Capello admits money is a problem for footballers
The England manager says problems of players like Ashley Cole are down to their wealth
England manager Fabio Capello has expressed concerns over the vast wealth accumulated by top football players, saying it is to blame for the off-the-field problems England players such as John Terry and Ashley Cole are going through.
The admission comes just days after the Capello appeared to brand WAGs - the wives and girlfriends of his players - a virus.
Speaking at a press conference before tonight's international friendly against Egypt at Wembley, the new England captain Steven Gerrard (standing in for the demoted John Terry) started the ball rolling by revealing that Capello had given his players a stern talking-to before training on Monday to focus on football.
Capello, clearly irritated to be forced into talking about his players' private lives, nonetheless expounded in detail on the problem he faces: "The private life is a big problem for some players, but also brings big problems for the clubs and for me," he said.
Asked if he was expecting too much of his young players, he said: "Why? We hope not. I remember in Spain, players would go to the disco and sometimes drink something, but they did not have big problems with different players, different girls, different women. These are young players, young boys, but rich boys. This is the problem.
"It's not only here. In Italy, in Germany, in Spain and in every country where football is so important it's the same problem." And Capello told his players he expected them to "sacrifice something in their own lives" in the run up to the World Cup in South Africa in June: "I ask them to take no chances," he said.
Capello has worked fast to ensure personal troubles do not affect England's preparations for the World Cup in South Africa this June. His "short and sweet" message, as Gerrard put it, comes after Capello's swift removal of the captaincy from John Terry, who had an alleged affair with his teammate's girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel, and his warnings to the WAGs to keep away from the players when they go to South Africa. ·

>>>No, many other people handle wealth sensibly. It is putting wealth in the hands of chavvy types.
>>>It happens in countries where there is a chav culture. It the chavs who pay the wages (through tickets and merchandise) as well as a few trashy types like Gold, Abramovich, the Thai crook and Sullivan.
