John Terry sacked from England captaincy
England manager Fabio Capello was forced to act after the revelations just kept on coming
John Terry has been dropped as England captain following a week of revelations regarding his private life. England manager Fabio Capello met with the Chelsea centre half today, intending to resolve the controversy before travelling to Poland for the Euro 2012 draw.
Capello said in a statement after the 12-minute meeting: "After much thought I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry.
"As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad."
Terry, 29, had been under intense pressure to resign as England captain all week after last Sunday's News of the World revealed that the married father-of-two had had an affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the girlfriend of his former England teammate Wayne Bridge. The newspaper claimed he had even got Perroncel pregnant and paid for her to have an abortion.
The revelations only came to light after a judge overturned a 'super-injunction' that Terry had brought to gag the press.
Today, Terry's position became even more difficult after the Daily Mail published further allegations, namely that his personal box at Wembley Stadium - a perk of being England captain - had been touted to paying customers for £4,000 per match.
Terry issued a statement of his own after being stripped of the captaincy: "I fully respect Fabio Capello's decision. I will continue to give everything for England." ·

£4,000 per match... capitalism at its best! Scumbag at its worst.
Is there no happy medium anymore :(
The right decision by Mr. Capello, the right choice for England. Representing one's country and being a positive role model on and off the pitch is something to take highly responsibly. Now it is somebody elses turn to step up and properly lead with the Captain's band.
