Carla Bruni becomes a grandmother at 42
‘It is not very rock ‘n’ roll but I am happy,’ says the First Lady of France
Forget yummy mummys, what about yummy grandmothers? It may be hard to imagine Carla Bruni being referred to as 'mamie' - as French children normally call their grannies. But that's the reality as Bruni, model turned folk singer and First lady of France, becomes a grandmother for the first time. Well - a step-grandmother, at least.
Jean Sarkozy, eldest son of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, announced today that his wife Jessica has given birth to a baby boy. There is no name yet - but we are promised that it is "tres cool".
As for Carla, she is described as overjoyed and is quoted as saying: "It is not very rock 'n' roll to be a grandmother, but I am very happy."
The French gossip site Ninapeople wondered this morning:
Carla deviendra t-elle une mamie gâteuse? which translates as 'Will Carla become a doting granny?'
Don't bank on it - especially as Carla is on record as saying she hopes to have children of her own with the president.
Baby Sarko's mum, Jessica Sebaoun-Darty, is an heiress of the family that owns the well-known French chain store Darty, a cross between the John Lewis kitchen department and Curry's. He will never be short of les goods blancs. ·
