It’s Ross v Norton as public votes for best talk show
National TV Awards pit Jonathan Ross against man who took his Friday night slot on BBC1
TV RIVALS Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton have been nominated for best talk show at the National TV Awards a year after Ross left the BBC and Norton took his Friday night slot.
Ross gave up his long-running BBC1 show in July last year after a media storm over his £18m three-year contract, largely provoked by outrage over obscene prank phone calls he made with Russell Brand to elderly actor Andrew Sachs on Brand's Radio 2 show.
The NTAs are decided by public vote and the contest between Norton and Ross will doubtless be characterised as a grudge match. Given the risqué humour which both are known for, should either of them win best talk show in January, the acceptance speech will make for entertaining viewing.
However, for that to happen the pair will have to beat off stiff competition from the other nominees in the category, including Alan Carr, Piers Morgan, Rob Brydon - and Alan Titchmarsh. ·
