Angelina Jolie is in talks to star in Ridley Scott's film about the glamorous Gucci family. According to Variety, Jolie is tipped to play Patrizia Reggiano, who was sentenced to 29 years in jail for planning the 1995 murder of her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci.

Scott hopes to recapture the heady days of the Gucci family dynasty in the 1970s and 1980s when the Italian design house sold $500m of clothes, accessories and handbags every year. By the 1990s, however, the house of Gucci was on the brink of bankruptcy, its luxury goods brand tarnished thanks to cheap knockoffs and family infighting.

Maurizio, the 47-year-old grandson of founder Guccio Gucci, won the power struggle to run the company. But just as he was about to reestablish the brand name by unveiling a line designed by newcomer Tom Ford, Maurizio was gunned down by a hitman hired by Reggiano in front of his Milan apartment in 1995.

Scott has reportedly approached his Body of Lies star Leonardo DiCaprio to play Maurizio. The producers, Fox 2000, hope to start filming the project early next year. ·
