John L Perry predicts a coup against Obama
US conservative news website Newsmax takes down the inflammatory post
Newsmax, a conservative US website, has had to take down an extraordinary post suggesting that America under Barack Obama might be heading for a military coup. The item by John L Perry, a former White House speechwriter, was titled Obama Risks a Domestic Military 'Intervention' and suggested there was "a remote, although gaining, possibility America's military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the 'Obama problem'. Don't dismiss it as unrealistic."
Perry's post did not explicitly call for the Marines to storm the White House, but it did outline a scenario – nationalised enterprises, rising taxes, unemployment and inflation, the president at war with the intelligence services, missile defenses dismantled - upon which leading figures in the US military would be forced to act.
"Anyone who imagines that those thoughts are not weighing heavily on the intellect and conscience of America's military leadership is lost in a fool's fog," he wrote. "Will the day come when patriotic general and flag officers sit down with the president, or with those who control him, and work out the national equivalent of a 'family intervention', with some form of limited, shared responsibility?"
Perry, who claims not to be a neo-con, or even a Republican, but surprisingly worked for the Democrats under Lyndon Johnson and Jimmy Carter, goes on: "Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars.
"Having bonded with his twin teleprompters, the President would be detailed for ceremonial speech-making."
Having removed the post – not before it was copied and passed by TalkingPointsMemo.com, where the full text is still available - Newsmax has tried to distance itself from the writer, saying that it "would never advocate or insinuate any suggestion of an activity that would undermine our democracy or democratic institutions". In a statement, Perry was dismissed as merely an "unpaid blogger".
However, Perry's piece was not a radical departure from the Newsmax editorial line. Headlines on other opinion pieces today include ‘'Obama Making America Less Safe', 'Socialism an Envy of Excellence' and, from a man pictured wearing an pirate-style eyepatch, 'Danger Signs of 1939 Similar to Today's', which expounds on an idea which as Ahmadinejad as a modern-day Hitler, Chavez as Mussolini, and Obama as Neville Chamberlain. ·

Even this article show the depth to which the American people believe in the freedom of speech.
I just find it hard to believe that any responsible person, whether Democrat(self-proclaimed) or Republican would advocate such an over-the-top solution to the crises started by a Republican President and Republican Congress, which we have had starting in 1994.
What if these so-called 'patriots,' were the other party, the Democrats? Not only would there be bloodletting in the streets, but martial law and a crackdown on civil liberties would ensue.
The Republicans would have none of this nonsense, talk of insurrection, calling the president "Hitler,' writing stories and articles regarding the possibility of a 'bloodless coup,' when in actuality the Republican members of Congress are stoking the flames of hatred and racism calling for the killing of President Barack Obama. One need only look at the signs carried by protesters at the so-called impromtu 'tea-parties' and you will see many of these Far Right Wing Nuts carrying signs that state clearly that next time they will be carrying guns and assault weapons.
