Gary Lineker marries his model girlfriend

If he didn't know it before, Gary Lineker now has the Italian for "I do". The former England striker and Match of the Day host is reported to have married his model girlfriend Danielle Bux yesterday in a secret ceremony, conducted entirely in Italian, at the town hall in Ravello, on the Amalfi coast south of Naples.

According to a report in the Sun newspaper, it was a laid-back, low-key affair with only two witnesses in attendance. Lineker dressed as if for Match of the Day - shirt and no tie - while his 30-year-old bride wore a simple cream dress. Luigi Apicella, who performed the ten-minute ceremony, said: "It was a very normal wedding. There was nothing extravagant."

However, all that was expected to change by the evening, with Lineker planning an elaborate reception at the swanky Hotel Caruso, a relatively new hotel he chose in preference to the more classic Amalfi coast establishments like the San Pietro or the Siranuse at Positano. Match of the Day regular Alan Hansen was among the many guests expected.

Lineker divorced his first wife Michelle in 2006 after 20 years of marriage. They have four sons. Bux, a former air stewardess, has a seven-year-old daughter from a previous relationship with the former Coventry City footballer, Adam Willis.

The Mail on Sunday announced last weekend that it had signed up Lineker as a new football columnist to replace the late Bobby Robson. Mail executives will not have been thrilled to read about his marriage in the Sun. ·
