With West Ham set to bank £5m for James Collins, who is on the brink of joining Villa, the Hammers could move for Marouane Chamakh. The Londoners are thought to be considering a bid of £7m and Bordeaux say that the player "wouldn't rule out" a move.

Ajax have signed Brazilian midfielder Kerlon from Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old Brazilian is famous for his unique 'seal dribble', which involves running at defences while keeping the ball in the air with his head - like a seal balancing a ball on its nose.

His chances have been limited in Italy because of injury and the youngster, tipped by many to become the new Ronaldinho, will attempt to kick start his career in Holland.

Portsmouth have confirmed the signings of defender Tal Ben Haim from Manchester City and French midfielder Hassan Yebda on a season-long loan from Benfica.

Israeli international Ben Haim, who has also played for Bolton and Chelsea and spent part of last season on loan at Sunderland, has signed a four-year contract with Pompey, where he comes in as a replacement for Sylvain Distin, who has joined Everton.

Bolton are close to signing Nantes' Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic on loan. ·
