Move over WAGs, here comes Michela

The start of the new Premier League season - it's this Saturday, in case you've just landed from Mars - is always a nervous time for the footballers' wives and girlfriends. Will one of the league's exotic new foreign signings turn up with an equally exotic WAG who threatens to steal their column inches? This year the answer is a resounding yes.

She's the stunning Michela Quattrociocche, the actress-model fiancee of Liverpool's new £20m signing from Roma, Alberto Aquilani. While she has already been photographed in the streets of Liverpool wearing the regulation WAG casual uniform of bum-hugging jeans tucked into Ugg boots, carrying an oversize handbag big enough to hide a football in, she is clearly a breath of fresh air on other fronts: no fake tan, no fake breasts, no fake CV.

Back home in Rome, she is known for her role in the film Scusa Ma Ti Chiamo Amore ('Sorry if I love you') which was a big hit in Italy last year. But she's as well known for being the girl who finally pinned down Aquilina, the central midfielder whose playboy reputation was legendary until he met Michela.

"Alberto is the most important love story of my life," she says now. "Ours is a connection like one in a film. I dream of marrying him one day. Ours is a love that gives you cramps in the stomach. Now I only wish to marry him."

Not that Aquilina hasn't tested her in true footballer style. According to modern Roman folklore, they nearly broke up when Michela discovered he had set his status to 'single' on his Facebook profile. She threatened to leave until he changed it to 'taken'. ·
