Crouch moves to Spurs for around £9m
Transfer Talk: Portsmouth agree to let the striker go for £3m less than original asking price; Zlatan Ibrahimovic signs five-year deal with Barcelona
Peter Crouch is to move to White Hart Lane, it was confirmed yesterday, following a day of intense negotations as Spurs forced down Portsmouth's £12m asking price for a fee believed to be around £9m. The 28-year-old's move comes less than a week after turning down a £12m offer from Sunderland. Crouch is understood to have signed a five-year deal at White Hart Lane worth £70,000 per week.
He will also be reunited with his former Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp and strike partner Jermain Defoe (pictured right, with Crouch). However the arrival of the 6ft 7in striker at Spurs is likely to spell the departure of Darren Bent, who looks set to sign for Sunderland. Bent was withdrawn from Tottenham Hotspur's pre-season tour to China last night, moments before the plane was due to take off.
Portsmouth confirmed last night that Crouch's sale was "necessitated by the club's commitment to repay scheduled debts... We will now be looking to add fresh faces to the first-team squad as soon as possible."...
Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed a five-year deal with European champaions Barcelona. The deal, which also sees Samuel Eto'o and Alexander Hleb move the other way, is equivalent to a €66m transfer. Barcelona have paid Inter Milan for €46m for Ibrahimovic, despite a fracture in the striker's left hand. Eto'o is valued at €20m and joins the Italian club on a five-year contract while Hleb moves to the San Siro on a one-year loan...
Manchester City have struck a £15m deal for Arsenal defender Kolo Toure. The 28-year-old, who will be paid around £120,000 a week, is expected to be unveiled in the next few days, according to the Daily Mail...
Meanwhile Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has hit out at Liverpool, claiming it is out of touch with reality in asking £30m for midfielder Xabi Alonso, the Guardian is reporting, after Madrid spent £80m on Cristiano Ronaldo and £56m on Kaka earlier this summer... ·
