Phil Spector bald mugshot released
Music producer stripped of his dignity as wigs are not allowed in prison
A prison mugshot of music producer Phil Spector, jailed last month for killing the actress Lana Clarkson in his LA home, has been released - showing the fallen music producer stripped not only of his liberty but also his dignity after being forced to give up his trademark hairpieces.
The picture was taken on June 5 at North Kern State Prison in Delano, California where Spector is currently being held. It shows the creator of the 'Wall of Sound' looking gaunt and revealing his large bald patch - set off by a few long lank locks.
It is a very different image to the one he presented during his trial when his flamboyant wigs often took centre stage. However, hairpieces are banned in prison and Spector is no longer able to wear them.
The 69-year-old music legend was sentenced to 19 years to life after being found guilty, following a retrial, of shooting Clarkson at his home in 2003. The first trial in 2007 ended when the jury could not reach a unanimous decision.
Spector's 28-year-old wife Rachelle said: "They took my husband's freedom and dignity. So why not his hair? In case you don't know, they don't allow for much accessorising while in prison." ·
