Andy Murray's preparations for Wimbledon, which begin with a second-round match at the Queen's Club tournament in west London tomorrow against Italian world No 48 Andreas Seppi, were given an additional boost when he was tipped by French Open champion Roger Federer to win this year's tournament.

"Andy Murray's best surface might be grass - I think he's playing excellent," Federer said, though the Swiss player will be strong favourite himself to win his 15th grand slam in SW19 with his great rival Rafael Nadal struggling to be fit because of knee trouble.

Meanwhile the 15-year-old British tennis player Laura Robson yesterday received a wildcard entry to the women’s tournament at Wimbledon this year.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
Simon Cambers, the Guardian: "As leaps of faith go, saying that you will definitely go on to win a grand slam title is one that Andy Murray is far too sensible to make, at least in public. If pushed, he might say that the US Open offers him his best chance because of his hardcourt prowess, but Roger Federer believes the Scot's maiden major title could come at Wimbledon next month."

Paul Newman, the Independent: "Andy Murray is growing used to breaking British records and will claim another at the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club this week. The world No 3, already the highest-rated Briton since the rankings were introduced 36 years ago, will be the first of his countrymen to go into the pre-Wimbledon event as the No 1 seed." ·
