Mel Gibson’s girlfriend expecting baby

A month after Mel Gibson, actor and director of the controversial film The Passion of the Christ, first introduced his Russian girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva to the world, holding hands on the red carpet for the LA premiere of X-Men Wolverine: Origins, he has confirmed that he and Grigorieva are expecting a baby.

The 53-year-old Australian told US chat show host Jay Leno on Monday that the rumours were correct. "This is true," said Gibson, "We're gonna have a child." The father-of-seven added: "I guess I'm Octo-Mel".
 
Last month Robyn Gibson, his wife of 28 years and and mother of his seven children, filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences with the Braveheart and Lethal Weapon star. She is expected to be awarded half of Gibson's estimated $US900 million (£605 million) fortune.
 
Gibson told Leno that his marriage ended three years ago, shortly after he was arrested in Malibu for drunken driving and famously launched into an anti-Semitic tirade. "I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself, I'm to blame," he said. "If you're inclined to judge, put it here." He described Robyn as an "admirable" woman.
 
Grigorieva, a 39-year-old musician, already has a teenage son with British actor and former James Bond star Timothy Dalton. Her baby by Gibson is due in the autumn, but the actor says he does not intend to marry Oksana. "Who would do it twice?" ·
