British actress found hanged in Paris
Lucy Gordon, 28, was tipped for stardom after playing Jane Birkin in a Serge Gainsbourg biopic being shown at Cannes
A British actress who stars in a biopic about French singer Serge Gainsbourg that is currently showing at Cannes has been found hanged in her Paris flat.
The body of 28-year-old Lucy Gordon, who also appeared in several Hollywood blockbusters including Spider-Man 3 and Serendipity, was reportedly found by her boyfriend.
Oxford-born Gordon had been dubbed 'the new Jane Birkin' after she played the Sixties siren and Gainsbourg muse in Joann Sfar's upcoming film Serge Gainsbourg, vie héroïque (Serge Gainsbourg, a Heroic Life).
A spokesman for the Cannes film festival, where the biopic is currently being promoted, said that Gordon was "a hugely promising young actress". He added: "We are devastated by this news. All those attending the festival had been hugely impressed by Lucy's work. She was a star in the making."
Gordon, who would have turned 29 on Saturday, starred opposite Audrey Tatou in the French romantic comedy Les poupées russes (Russian Dolls) in 2005.
One of her first films was 2002's Four Feathers, in which she appeared alongside Heath Ledger, the Australian actor who died of a drugs overdose in his New York apartment last year. ·
