Uchitel to ‘sue’ NY Post over 9/11 fiance story
Tiger Woods’ mistress, who lost her fiance on 9/11, denies saying she is ‘almost happy’ it happened
THE SCRAMBLE for stories about 9/11 as the 10th anniversary approaches appears to be turning ugly, and in a bizarre twist the most famous of Tiger Woods' lovers, Rachel Uchitel, is threatening to sue the New York Post over a story in which she is quoted as saying she is "almost happy" her fiance died in the attacks and that she didn't become a "fat housewife".
Long before she achieved notoriety by hooking up with the errant golfer while working as a Las Vegas hostess, Uchitel had a job at Bloomberg and was engaged to investment banker Andy O'Grady. His office was on the 104th floor of the World Trade Centre and he was killed when the towers came down.
In the aftermath of the tragedy a photo of Uchitel tearfully appealing for information about her missing fiance was featured on newspapers around the world.
As part of its 10th anniversary coverage the Post's Page Six magazine got in touch with Uchitel to ask her how she felt about the attacks today. What she told them and how it has been presented has led to a huge row.
According to the paper she said: "I believe Andy was meant to die because he was too good... I'm almost happy it ended the way it did because I've learned so many lessons from him. It would have been tragic if we got into fights and then divorced — I would be a fat housewife with three kids in Sands Point, Long Island."
But she is adamant that she has been misquoted. And after seeing the article she took to Twitter to vent her frustration. "The NY Post Article today is COMPLETELY out of context and its horrifying how MEAN some media chooses to be to me even relating to 9/11... The NY Post 'journalists' are abusing the power they have by molding words and shaping how readers perceive people. This should be stopped."
In a subsequent interview with Hollywood Life magazine the former hostess said: "I would have loved to be Andy's wife and to be a fat housewife with kids in Long Island … That would have been the best life."
And she added that whatever she had gone through as a result of the Tiger Woods scandal it was nothing compared to losing her fiance. "The last two years of my life have been awful," she explained. "But not like 10 years ago. It was the worst day of my life, nothing will be the same again."
Now, according to the New York Daily News she is planning to sue the Post. Uchitel, who now lives in San Francisco with her new boyfriend, told the Daily News she had hired an attorney and was expecting an apology and retraction from the Post. ·
