She may have felt humiliated following her very public axing from the US version of The X Factor, but it seems that someone apart from L'Oreal still thinks Cheryl Cole is worth it, and they've given her a film role to prove it.

Cole, 28, has been trying for a while to make the transition from Britain's favourite Geordie to global celebrity. She was thwarted earlier this year when American TV executives apparently decided that – among other faults - her regional accent was too strong for a US audience.

Now, however, she may get another shot at international fame.

What To Expect When You're Expecting, based on the well-known pregnancy advice book, stars Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and Chris Rock, and is due to be released next May. According to the Daily Mail, Cole is in "advanced talks" to shoot a couple of scenes for the film, although what role she will play is not yet clear.

Most likely is that it will be a cameo role as a talent show judge, before whom the Cameron Diaz character has to audition.

Apparently the former Girls Aloud singer impressed "Hollywood bosses" when she attended the Cannes film festival in May. But the Mail's source insists this doesn’t mean Cole is seeking to become an actress. "This is a bit of fun for Cheryl. It was just an opportunity that has come up while she has been having some down time and she thought it would be great fun to take part." ·
