Red top tales: Elin Nordegren's disappearing smile, Paltrow the party animal

TIGER WOODS banned his ex-wife Elin Nordegren from smiling on the golf course, his former coach has claimed, in case her expression revealed that she was surprised by Tiger’s performance. The Daily Mail reports that coach Hank Haney has claimed in a tell-all book about working with Woods that the couple had a “calm, almost cool relationship” before their marriage disintegrated. But as the years went by, former swimsuit model Elin’s smile “got smaller” and she would “keep her emotions under wraps whenever Tiger won”.

Dame Edna Everage is "hanging up her glasses and retiring", the Daily Mail reports. Barry Humphries, 78, the man behind the madcap glasses and catchphrases such as "hello possums", says that although he may appear as Edna on TV in the future his next tour will be the last to feature Australia’s most famous housewife. "The fact of the matter is that I’m beginning to feel a bit senior," he says. "It’s the best aerobics you could do, leaping around on stage, but it’s gruelling when there are other things to do." Dame Edna became Humphries' most famous creation in the early 80s when the larger than life housewife from Moonee Ponds in Melbourne, became an international star with her own talk show.

One in five women is the shape of a butternut squash, having bust and hip sizes the same but with a waist smaller by 10 inches, according to The Sun, which prints a semi-naked picture of Kelly Brook to celebrate. "Experts" also found that 25 per cent of British women are carrot-shaped and 18 per cent are apples but less than six per cent are shaped like a bunch of broccoli with a large bust but hips and waist the same size.

Kate Moss, Leonardo Di Caprio, Simon Cowell, Naomi Campbell and other guests at Sir Philip Green’s flamboyant 60th birthday party bash in Mexico were all given matching "PG60 branded birthday-wear", the Daily Mail reports. The Topshop boss’s four-day birthday extravaganza cost an estimated £6 million and among other delights included £150,000 worth of fireworks, music by Stevie Wonder and Robbie Williams, Japanese Kobe beef burgers and "party hostesses dressed only in leopard body paint and thongs". "Sir Phil", assisted by wife Tina, spared little expense during the four-day bender at the luxurious Rosewood Mayakoba resort where Caribbean seafront suites cost £7,000 a night. He even built his own nightclub for the event, where Gwyneth Paltrow was an "unlikely party animal", dancing until 6am on Saturday morning.

Prince Harry is heartbroken after finding out his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy is now dating one his best mates, reckons the Daily Star. The "blonde socialite", 26, and "posh art dealer" Blaise Patrick, 27, have been spied enjoying "cosy" nights out and "getting quite frisky on the dance floor". "Pals claim" that although Chelsy appears to have moved on, Harry is still hoping for a reconciliation with the "love of his life".

An Iraqi man in his 50s spent 22 years hidden in a hole 17 inches wide and six feet wide, the Daily Mirror reports. Jawad al-Shammari was sentenced to death when he was a student in 1979 for daring to support an opposition party. He fled Baghdad for his mother’s home in rural Iraq and lived in a cellar he and his mother dug next to her house for the next two decades, fearing he would be captured and killed if he was ever caught. The "human mole" has now written a book about his experience. Speaking for the first time since Saddam was hanged in 2006, he said: "Sometimes I felt like I was a dead person. I never expected to lead a normal life."
