Tabloid Tales: Songstress gets hitched again, Lana gets new wheels, Louis Walsh gets defensive

SHOCK in the pop world as Avril Lavigne breaks the news that she's engaged to marry Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger – not just because he's ten years older, but because Nickelback is considered so uncool (the Facebook group Hating Nickeklback has 5,068 likes) and she only recently broke up with boyfriend Brody Jenner. As the Daily Mail reports, the news came out on jilted Jenner's birthday. Lavigne and Kroeger, both Canadians, found love after uniting in February to co-write a song for Avril's upcoming studio album. An insider told People magazine: "He makes her so happy. Their families could not be more excited." This is not the songstress's first marriage into soft-rock royalty: her first husband was Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley whom she married in a fairytale wedding in 2006. It lasted three years.

Pouting songstress Lana Del Ray has landed a six-figure deal to become the face of Jaguar's new sports car, says The Sun. The luxury vehicle company is gearing up to launch the two-seater F-Type sports car in Paris next month. Jaguar's global brand director Adrian Hallmark says that Lana was picked for her "unique blend of authenticity and modernity", characteristics she shares with the car. One thing's for certain: Lana will need to change her wheels. The gorgeous singer was photographed in the Daily Mail last week taking a spin in a classic gold SL Mercedes Benz. Jaguar might have something to say about that.

A Bristol shoplifter collapsed after eating super-hot Scotch Bonnet chilies he had stolen from an Asian food shop, reports The Daily Express. Marcus Banwell, 39, was discovered moments later, doubled up and vomiting on the pavement. Police were in no doubt as to the cause of his affliction, finding more peppers, as well as a stolen milk-shake and fruit juice in his pockets. Unfortunately for Banwell, Scotch Bonnets are one of the hottest chilies with a heat rating of up to 350,000 Scoville heat units, compared with only 8,500 for a jalapeno. Bristol magistrates sentenced him to 14 weeks in jail after hearing he didn't only steal food that day - police also uncovered a stolen clarinet tucked in his waistband.

Despite falling ratings, Louis Walsh has defended the new series of The X-Factor, telling the Daily Mirror – somewhat erroneously – that it's "the only show on TV". On Saturday the launch show lost more than two million viewers from last year's opener. The veteran judge says it's all down to the weather. "I wasn't disappointed. There were nine million people watching on the warmest day of the year". This may have been only the first show, but Louis already believes the judges might already have seen the winner. The Irishman was impressed at 16-year old Ella Henderson's star turn. "It's early days, but I can see Ella going all the way", he said.
