Tabloid tales: Lindsay Lohan arrested, Lagerfeld: Kate Middleton's mum is 'sexy', DiCaprio's Titanic moaning

LINDSAY LOHAN was arrested early this morning after she allegedly clipped a pedestrian with her car. According to TMZ, the Mean Girls star was parking her Porsche at the Dream Hotel in New York when she hit the knee of an unnamed man in his thirties, but only stopped to check her car for damages before entering the hotel.  At 2.30am she was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, but was later released. The man was hospitalised, though had no visible injuries - something Lindsay later reportedly described as "fishy". The wayward actress has a history of car-related run-ins with the police and is currently on probation in connection with a jewellery theft case.

Karl Lagerfeld has revealed he believes the Duchess of Cambridge's mother, Carole Middleton, is "very sexy". Lagerfeld previously said he "doesn't like" the face of Kate's sister, Pippa, and advised her to only show off her best asset: her famous bottom. The Chanel designer admitted he "loves Kate... she can try anything!", but concluded: "The mother is sexier than the daughters." According to the Daily Mail, Lagerfeld described the 57-year-old-mother of three - Kate, Pippa and their brother James - as "full of life". He explained: "For a woman who must be 50 or so I think she's great. Full of energy."

James Cameron has revealed that during filming of the Oscar-winning Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio moaned constantly about getting wet. Cameron said: "Leo was like a Siamese cat trying to get into the water. He made a huge production of it every time." The Sun reports that the director of the 1997 blockbuster put up with Leo's whingeing until the last day of shooting when Leo admitted he was actually a qualified diver. Cameron raged: "What was all this stuff with the cat and getting into the water? I wanted to wring his neck."

Cheryl Cole's niece is 'devastated' her audition for The X-Factor will not be aired on television. According to The Sun, Melissa Armstrong, who was a bridesmaid at Cheryl's wedding to Ashley Cole, appeared on the show hoping to make a name for herself as more than just a relation of the former X-Factor judge. Despite choosing to sing Cheryl's single Promise this, her appearance was cut from the programme. A family friend described the move as "unfair", saying: "If anything, Melissa is a better singer than Cheryl." However, Melissa failed to impress the judges and didn't make it past the first stage of the competition.

Two hapless robbers held up a shop in Germany, but fled with only 20 cents (15p) from a charity piggy bank. The distinctly unprofessional crooks wore masks when they entered a burger bar in Dusseldorf, but fled after setting off the alarm. The Metro reports the pair also managed to grab two chocolate bars on their way out, bringing the total of their haul up to €2.60 (£2.09). A police spokesman has appealed for witnesses. "We don't believe we're looking for professionals," he said. "But nevertheless it was a serious offence."
